WVU studied China's Coal gasification/conversion industry - - it's history, status and future - - for the USDOE, and "Coal Gasification In China", as per the attached file, is their final report.
The scope of this technology, and it's implementation, in China is, given the total lack of attention paid to it by Coal Country elected leaders and organs of communication in the USA, profoundly disturbing.

Carbon Dioxide, contrary to all we've been led to believe, can be seen and treated as a valuable raw material resource, a raw material which can be used and consumed, instead of imported OPEC petroleum-based raw materials, in the industrial synthesis of various hydrocarbon fuels and certain high-volume plastics and polymers.
Wouldn't it be an immense blessing in terms of the United States Coal Country economy, that is, in terms of jobs and industries, if that fact were at last openly and publicly acknowledged, and, acted upon?

Exxon Co-Gasifies Coal and Carbon-Recycling Biomass | Research & Development | News; concerning: "United States Patent Application 20100083575 - Co-gasification Process for Hydrocarbon Solids and Biomass; April, 2010; Inventors: Ramesh Varadaraj, et. al., NJ; Assignee: ExxonMobil Research and Engineering Company, NJ; Abstract: A process for the co-gasification of carbonaceous solids (coal) and biomass in which the biomass material is pyrolyzed to provide a biomass pyrolysis oil and biomass char or coke which are then mixed with the carbonaceous solid to form a slurry. This slurry is then heated if necessary to achieve a viscosity which can be processed conveniently in the gasifier. The heat required for pyrolyzing the biomass can conveniently be obtained from the heat exchanger used to cool the hot synthesis gas product emerging from the gasifier. Claims: A process for forming a slurry feed for the gasification to synthesis gas of solid carbonaceous particles and solid biomass ... wherein the solid carbonaceous particles comprise coal (or) a coke derived from coal (and) wherein the biomass comprises biological matter selected from wood, plant matter, municipal waste, green waste, byproducts of farming or food processing waste, sewage sludge, black liquor from wood pulp, and algae";

There's a lot more going on here than meets the eye. We're trying to get a CoalTL report together that will start to tie some of the things involved together, and we'll build on that in the future. It's complicated.
But, our computer/connectivity issues remain a plague on us - - in addition to Joe's health issues, which we still have to get somehow resolved - - and, since we might not be able to do as good or as coherent and thorough a job of it as we might wish, we wanted to introduce the issue/topic to you all so that the whole deal might be clearer as our reports on it do finally evolve.
