West Virginia University revealed details of a new team walk which will take place before each home football game this season. It will make its debut before the Friends of Coal Bowl Sunday, Sept. 4.

MORGANTOWN -- The inaugural West Virginia football Mountaineer Mantrip, a team walk set to rally WVU fans before each home game this season, will make its debut Sunday, Sept. 4, according to a news release from WVU officials. The Friends of Coal Bowl will pit the Mountaineers against Marshall at 3:30 p.m. at Milan Puskar Stadium. 

The walk is a tribute to West Virginia's coal industry. A mantrip is the shuttle that typically transports miners down into an underground mine at the start of their shift. 

The Mountaineer Mantrip will begin when the football team is dropped off approximately two hours and 20 minutes before kickoff at the corner of the WVU Medical Center and Don Nehlen Drive. 
Fans are encouraged to create a path, which will take the team and coaching staff, led by head coach Dana Holgorsen, through the blue and light blue lots and to the entrance of the Northeast gate at Milan Puskar Stadium.

Courthouse security funds approved

PARKERSBURG - The West Virginia Coal Association will offer an informational session at 11 a.m. Monday before the Wood County Commission.
The meeting is scheduled for the commission office on the second floor of the courthouse. If necessary, the event may be moved to the Fort Boreman public meeting room in the Judge Black Courthouse Annex.
On Aug. 22, the commission sponsored, on request of Commissioner Wayne Dunn, an informational presentation on mountaintop coal removal, with guest speaker Vivian Stockman, outreach coordinator with the Ohio Valley Environmental Coalition, based in Huntington. County officials said they were contacted this week by the coal association with a request for a meeting.

The radical "green" community apparently can only agree on one thing -- getting rid of American jobs.  According to them, coal, oil and natural gas are all dirty "fossil fuels." They don't like hydro because you can't dam up a river, it might prevent a fish from getting to its spawning ground and now you can't even generate wind energy. So what IS their prescription for America's economic future?

The North American Coalbed Methane Forum will hold its Fall Session November 8-9, 2011 at the Hilton Garden Inn in South Pointe near Canonsburg, PA.  The Forum will consist of presentations covering technical aspects of coalbed methane development and production.  Fracing and frac water disposal of Marcellus shale will also be presented.

The Friends of Coal continued their outreach efforts with the following events:

    ·  Drafted for review two 30-second radio spots for the Friends of Coal Bowl September 4^th.

• • Friends of Coal assisted in the production of an August 15^th edition of “Mining the Issues,” a radio show hosted by Rick Abraham on WVOW Radio in Logan.
  • Taped a new episode of “The Coal Seam” for the West Virginia Library Television Network Tuesday, August 23.
  • Production of “Coal Facts 2011” is beginning.
