WASHINGTON, D.C. — The America’s Coal Association today praised the bipartisan introduction of the National Miners Day Resolution, led by Senator Jim Justice (R-WV) and Senator Ruben Gallego (D-AZ), recognizing December 6, 2025, as National Miners Day and celebrating the contributions of America’s miners.
“Coal miners are the quiet giants of America’s industrial strength,” said Chris Hamilton, President of the West Virginia Coal Association. “From the metallurgical coal that fuels steelmaking to the thermal coal that keeps homes warm and the grid steady, West Virginia miners do the hard, necessary work that powers American progress. This bipartisan resolution is a fitting tribute to the grit, sacrifice, and productivity of the men and women who make it possible.”
“America’s energy and manufacturing backbone owes much to miners—especially those who provide the coal that ensures a stable grid and competitive industries,” said Emily Arthun, President of the American Coal Council. “Without our miners, you don’t have reliable power, resilient supply chains, or the industrial capacity that sets this country apart. This resolution rightly honors the workers who make all of that possible.”
“Wyoming’s miners lead the nation in safe, responsible thermal-coal production, delivering the affordable, dependable electricity that underpins the American way of life,” said Travis Deti, Executive Director of the Wyoming Mining Association. “Our miners work in challenging conditions to supply the fuel that keeps the grid stable and utility bills manageable for families across the country. Their contribution deserves recognition, and this resolution does exactly that.”
“Kentucky miners have powered communities across the Southeast and Midwest for generations, providing reliable coal that keeps factories running, homes heated, and regional economies strong,” said Sam McKown, President of the Kentucky Coal Association. “Mining is tough, honest work, and our miners take pride in doing it well. This recognition is an important reminder of the value they bring to the nation every single day.”
“Pennsylvania’s coal miners play a pivotal role in supporting grid reliability throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic,” said Rachel Gleason, Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Coal Alliance. “Our miners provide the fuel and the infrastructure that keeps hospitals operating, manufacturing plants running, and millions of homes warm during the coldest months of the year. Honoring their contributions is both deserved and necessary.”
