The West Virginia Coal Association applauds United States Senate Republicans for declaring October 19-25 as National Coal Week. The Resolution pays tribute to the men and woman who mine coal and cited the importance of coal-fired generation and coal-to-steel technologies as the bedrock fuel behind the U.S. economy and our country’s national security.

Chris Hamilton, President of the West Virginia Coal Association, saluted the action of the U.S. Senate Republicans and reinforced his appreciation for miners across America who are the face of our nation’s most reliable and diverse fuel source and work every day to provide for their families.

“From steelmaking and extracting rare earth elements to powering our growing economy, you can always count on coal and coal miners to be major contributors to our country’s quality of life and national security. For the first time in decades, there’s a perfect political storm working for us instead of against us.  And like our nation’s coal miners, Senate Republicans are always there.”

Hamilton noted that the resolution was sponsored by: Sen. Cynthia Lummis (WY), Sen. John Hoeven (ND), Sen. Mike Lee (UT), Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (WV), Sen. Marsha Blackburn (TN), Sen. Dan Sullivan (AK), Sen. Jim Justice (WV), Sen. Mitch McConnell (KY), Sen. Tim Sheehy (MT), and Sen. John Barrasso (WY)
