Coal production in the entire NAPP thermal region is down by almost -16% from the same time last year. Implied national metallurgical production is off by -17.6%.
Thermal coal prices were unchanged from last week. Natural gas prices increased in all regions from the previous week, with the average price increasing by +34.5% ($0.87/MMBtu), driven by a +$2.77/MMBtu increase in pricing in the New York region.
U.S. iron and steel production increased slightly from the previous week by +0.46%. Furnace capacity utilization increased by +0.52%.
U.S. Electric generation increased week over week by +2.25%, including a +1.6% increase in output from the coal regions. Electrical generation from the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and Southeast Regions increased by +3.24%. Output from the Central Industrial Region increased by +3.58% from last week.
Total U.S. rail traffic dropped by -1.57% week over week.
