MORGANTOWN -- The developer of a $2 billion coal-fired power plant in northern West Virginia says the project has reached a key milestone.

Longview Power said Monday that its plant in Maidsville has begun generating electricity. Commercial operations are expected to begin this summer.

Longview Power says hiring for the 695-megawatt plant is nearly complete. The plant will have 96 employees.
