Jordan, Stovash & Lilly to be Inducted into WVCoal Hall of Fame

Former WV Coal Association Chairman of the Board, Andrew Jordon, along with longtime coal industry executives, Ron Stovash and Pete Lilly, are being inducted into the WV Coal Hall of Fame this coming Thursday evening, May 8, 2014, as part of the annual Joint Meeting of the West Virginia Coal Association, the WV Coal Mining Institute and the CAS/SME.

The meeting will be held on May 7-9 at the Embassy Suites in Charleston, WV.  The agenda and registration information can be obtained from the WVCA offices by e-mailing:  sdavison@wvcoal.com.

White, Lemmon, Bonasso, Cappellanti and Paterno Lead Stellar Group of Recipients at State Journal's Who's Who Awards

Former West Virginia Coal Association President and Chairman of the Board, Gary White, was chosen as one of two winners of the Lorenelle White Lifetime Achievement Award at this year’s State Journal Who’s Who in West Virginia Business Awards. Gary was joined by longtime Association and industry friend, Ruth Lemmon, who is president of the West Virginia Automobile and Truck Dealer’s Association.

The awards are made each year in honor of the State Journal’s former publisher, the late-Lorenelle White.

Armory Dedicated on Former Hobet Site

On Monday, 4/28/14, Governor Earl Ray Tomblin joined other dignitaries to “break ground” for  the Logan-Mingo Readiness Center on the former Hobet Mining 07 mining site on the county line between Logan and Mingo Counties.  This is a further example of the WV National Guard partnering with the industry to expand its Joint Base West Virginia.  When completed, the Center will be home to the National Guard units currently headquartered in Williamson and Logan.

Supreme Court Reinstates Cross-State Air Pollution Rule

The Supreme Court in a 6-2 decision Tuesday upheld a rule that allows the Environmental Protection Agency to regulate air pollution from power plants that crosses state lines, handing a major victory to President Obama.

The rule requires 28 states in the East, Midwest, and South to cut back on sulfur and nitrogen emissions from coal-fired power plants that “contribute significantly” to air problems in other states.
