Also, at its August 5th meeting, the Board of Directors approved the following companies for membership into the WVCA:  As General (producing) Member JMP Coal Holding, which has producing mines in Mingo and Logan counties and will be represented by Daniel J. Moon; as Associate Members: American Mine Research, Inc., David Graf representing; Sturm Environmental Services, John Sturm representing; Virginia Explosives & Drilling Company, Inc. represented by Cliff Wolford; and, Willis of Tennessee, Inc. represented by Jeffrey S. Eggleston.  Welcome to all the new members.

The Logan Coal Vendors Association and Southern WV Community and Technical College are inviting organizations to join them on Friday, August 20 at the Logan Country Club for their annual golf tournament.  A portion of the proceeds helps the scholarship funds of CEDAR and Southern WV Community College.

The pro-coal rally on Capital Hill and visit to Washington, DC has been set for September 15, 2010.  The rally/press conference is scheduled for 10 a.m. on September 15th at a site to be announced on the hill and will feature coal state legislators and representatives from the Eastern Coal State Associations.  Additionally, visits to key Congressional offices and additional media contacts will be arranged to maximize messaging and overall effect of the visit.

           

The MTM Coalition will be coordinating this event with the Eastern State Coal Groups, United Mine Workers, FACES, members of Congress and other business groups.

           

A limited number of buses and overnight lodging in Alexandria has been arranged for September 14th.

Continuing our outreach efforts around the state, the FOC has scheduled the following events:

 

·         August 13 – 20 – the FOC and FACES of Coal will jointly man informational tables at the annual WV State Fair.

·         August 18 – The FOC will once again sponsor the Marshall University “Paint the Town Green” event in Charleston.

·         September 11 – The FOC will man an informational booth at the International Resource Partners

·         September 15 – FOC will join the Coalition for Mountaintop Mining for the group’s informational event in Washington, DC  (see above)

·         September 17 --  FOC and the Coalition for Mountaintop Mining will present a program on the importance of coal mining to the state’s economy, as well as an informational discussion about the practice of surface mining in Appalachia to the annual Energy & Industry Session of Leadership West Virginia.  Senior Vice President Chris Hamilton will be joined by Vice President Jason Bostic and others on a panel discussion.  Prior to the panel, Hamilton has been asked to speak to the group about the role of coal in WV.
