CHARLESTON - Republican leaders in West Virginia plan to elevate the Legislature's energy committees to major-committee status, giving them more time to meet and more resources to use.
Though legislative leaders are hesitant to release many details on the upcoming session's Republican agenda, officials said a focus on energy will be a major component.

The Friends of Coal petition to protect America's coal jobs has now collected more than 12,500 letters of support through our convenient online tool.
The online tool allows you to file your comments calling on EPA to rescind its job-killing regulations that are halting the construction of new coal-fired power plants and essentially forcing the closure of existing plants. The letters are sent directly to the EPA's official comments e-mail address. You have until the close of business on December 1, 2014 to register your comments. If you have not already done so, we ask that you visit the online petition and add your support. You can do so at: www.friendsofcoal.org/soundoff<http://www.friendsofcoal.org/soundoff. Thanks to all those who have already participated.
Embracing New Direction
To The Editor:
There is a refreshing change moving through our wonderful state, from the panhandles to the southern coalfields and everywhere in between. Last week’s election has left us with real optimism and a true sense of Mountaineer Spirit.
At the West Virginia Business & Industry Council, where representatives from 26 different industries work on issues to move West Virginia forward, and all across the state, we have high hopes and even higher expectations for those who will be leading West Virginia starting in January.
