Coal-to-Gasoline Plant Public Meeting

A large, positive crowd attended last night’s public meeting on TransGas’ proposal to build a coal-to-gasoline plant in Mingo County.  The meeting was another step in the process of obtaining an air quality permit from the WV Department of Environmental Protection.  It was reported that the Harless Center in Gilbert was full and everyone was supportive of the proposal, which will be one of the first in the country.  The plant proposes to use 3 million tons of coal, annually, to produce 750,000 gallons of Premium 92 Octane gasoline per day.  The plant is expected to cost between $2.5 and $3 billion.  Several Association members appeared and spoke in support of the plant, in addition to a letter presented by the Association and the Friends of Coal noting the importance of this plant to the local area as well as the entire State and energy security. A notice of the meeting had gone to all Friends of Coal to be sure they were aware of the meeting and its importance.
