The White House today confirmed President George W. Bush will meet with state
and national coal industry leaders, Thursday, July 31, during the annual meeting
of the West Virginia Coal Association.
The president will use the opportunity to discuss
overall energy policies and the importance of clean coal technologies and
nuclear technology, according to a White House spokesman.
Coal Association President Bill Raney welcomed the
visit.

ICG Eastern Incorporated’s Birch River Complex Takes Top Honor
Eighteen West Virginia mining operations were recognized for stellar
reclamation efforts in 2007 during the West Virginia Coal Association’s
35th Annual Mining Symposium on Friday. Coal Association President
Bill Raney made the announcement.
“Our companies strive to be good stewards of the land.” Raney stated.
“The Reclamation Award winners are fantastic examples of that
stewardship and they are all to be commended.”

Twenty-seven West Virginia mining operations were
recognized for stellar safety achievements in 2007 during the West
Virginia Coal Association’s 35th Annual Mining Symposium on Thursday. Coal Association President Bill Raney made the announcement.
“I can’t tell you how proud we are of these organizations’ achievements in calendar year 2007,” Raney stated. “They are truly setting the mark for our nation’s coal mining industry.”
Raney said Consol’s Robinson Run Mine in Harrison County was honored
with the “2007 Barton B. Lay, Jr. Milestones of Safety Award”, which is
bestowed upon the industry’s safest operation each year.

State and national leaders, energy experts to address the group
State and national leaders, including West Virginia Governor Joe
Manchin and Senator Jay Rockefeller, along with energy industry experts
and regulators, will address representatives from the state’s coal
industry during the 35th annual West Virginia Coal Association Mining
Symposium to be held Wednesday, January 9 – Friday, January 11 at the
Charleston House Holiday Inn in Charleston, WV.

Representatives of the West Virginia Coal Association will testify
Wednesday evening in favor of proposed revisions to the federal Stream
Buffer Zone regulations.
The rule changes are proposed by the federal Office of Surface Mining,
which will conduct a public hearing on the subject, Wednesday, October
24, beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the Charleston House Holiday Inn in
Charleston.
WVCA President Bill Raney will testify in support of the rule change,
along with others from the Association’s staff and membership
