MSHA PUBLISHES HEALTH STANDARDS FOR ASBESTOS

On Friday, February 29, 2008, the Mine Safety and Health Administration published in the Federal Register, as a separate Part IV, revisions to its existing health standards for asbestos exposure at metal and nonmetal mines, surface coal mines, and surface areas of underground coal mines.  This final rule reduces the permissible exposure limits for airborne asbestos fibers.

Appy Power President Details New Plant

The state Public Service Commission has given American Electric Power the go-ahead to build a $2.3-billion plant in Mason County that will be the first of its kind in the world.
It's called an Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle Plant. Dana Waldo, the president of Appalachian Power, a subsidiary of AEP, says both clean energy processes they'll be doing aren't cutting edge but putting them together is.

I am writing to thank Dawn Dayton and The Register-Herald for publishing the informative article on mountaintop mining. I’m certain that those who contend that mining and environmental stewardship cannot co-exist will not be moved by my support for the article or mountaintop mining in general. However, Ms. Dayton is to be commended for investing her time and a great deal of common sense to arrive at her well-thought-out opinions.
